ISLAMABAD: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has categorically dismissed the circulating rumours on social media about the introduction of an amnesty scheme for smuggled vehicles, commonly referred to as Non-Custom Paid (NCP) automobiles.
In an official statement, the FBR termed these rumours as “baseless” and clarified that no such proposals are being considered by the board. The clarification came in response to widespread speculation that the government was planning to regularise smuggled vehicles through a new amnesty scheme.
“There are no proposals under consideration at the FBR regarding the regularisation of smuggled vehicles,” the FBR stated, firmly rejecting the claims.
The FBR also urged the public to refrain from believing or spreading misinformation originating from unverified sources on social media or elsewhere. The board emphasized the importance of relying on official channels for accurate information.
Moreover, the FBR highlighted that under the newly introduced tax regime in the 2024-25 budget, vehicle taxation is no longer a fixed amount but is now based on the value of the vehicle. This change reflects the government’s ongoing efforts to implement a more equitable tax system.
The public is advised to stay informed through official announcements and avoid falling prey to unfounded rumours that could cause unnecessary confusion or concern.
